Deadly airstrike target fighters of Taliban’s military commission chief in Herat
A deadly airstrike targeted the fighters of a prominent Taliban leader in western Herat province of Afghanistan leaving at least 11 dead.
The 207th Zafar Corps in a statement said the airstrike was carried out in the vicinity of Chesht district targeting the fighters of Abdul Rahman alias Maldar, the military commission chief of Taliban for the district.
The statement further added that 11 Taliban fighters including nephew of Abdul Rahman.
A Toyota Land Cruiser type vehicle was also destroyed in the airstrike, the 207th Zafar Corps added in its statement.
The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the airstrike so far.
Herat is among the relatively calm provinces in West of Afghanistan but Taliban militants are active in some of the remote districts of the province including Chest district where often attempt to carry out terrorist related activities against the government and security institutions.
