Ghani In Islamabad For Talks With Pakistan Officials

President Ghani met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad on Thursday and discussed matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation in various sectors and regional situation.

Ghani is accompanied by National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib, NDS Chief Masoom Stanekzai and Acting Interior Minister Massoud Andrabi.

At the meeting with Qureshi, Ghani said that he visited Pakistan as per the suggestion of almost 3,200 delegates of the grand council on peace to improve relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the President’s Office said in a statement on Thursday.

“The relations between the two countries should be according to mutual respect and government-to-government relations,” the statement said.

“We hope this trip will have a positive result for both nations,” the statement said.

On Wednesday, Ghani’s spokesman Haroon Chakhansuri said the president is expected to discuss four key issues with Khan.

Security, peace talks with the Taliban, regional connectivity, trade ties and investment will dominate the agenda during the meeting with the Pakistani leadership, said Chakhansuri.

The Afghan government has said that the trip will also help to find out how Pakistan can contribute to the Afghan peace process.
