Khalilzad discuss Afghan Peace Efforts with Pakistani PM
January 18, 2019
Kabul- U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad held a meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmud Qureshi in Islamabad on January 18 and shed light over his recent efforts to resolve Afghanistan’s 17-year war, Pakistani officials said.
Qureshi assured Khalilzad of Pakistan’s support for the peace process, which has suffered a setback because of the Taliban’s refusal to talk directly to the Afghan government, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
Washington hopes Pakistan can help end the conflict.
The Afghan government regularly accuses Pakistan of providing support to the Taliban. Pakistani officials deny this but the ground realities support the Afghan claim.
According to Pundits, lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and around the around the region would be a dream until, Pakistan’s terror course was not changed and the terror havens across that country were not eliminated, either Pakistan or the US-led Coalition Forces.
